Waiting for the freeze

Waiting for the Freeze

The effects of Global warming are nowhere more evident than on the banks of Hudson Bay where the winter's freeze is happening later and later. It is essential that the winter freeze comes early so that the ice pack can form to enable the bears to move north and hunt seal. The nutrients and blubber from the seal enable the bears to survive the long, harsh Northern winter. Many bears are falling victim to starvation and many have resorted to killing cubs in order to survive.

The polar bears at Cape Point in 2000 numbered about 1200. In 5 short years, that number had dwindled to 950
